Chapter 17

Being True

Sparrow knew much of Jed when they had been in Iowa at R& J’s, but they had talked little of who Jed was before that time. This was because Jed had felt he was somehow blocked from remembering or recalling some memories. As hard as he tried to pick up the lost memories inside him the more frustrated he became. Whenever he started to share about his life before meeting Cooper and Ray he drew a blank in his mind. They all used to joke about Jed not remembering, but to Jed this was a strange agony he had no words for.

Jed’s dreams tormented him with partial images that only made things worse. He did not understand how one could clearly define who they were, if they did not know or remember where they had come from. The only relief he found for the lost memories that tormented him, was when he flew as the condor.

When they landed in the Amazon and Jed’s feet touched the familiar ground, the veil of blank memories was lifted. That sound was an acceptance to himself and those around him of who he was as the chief’s son.

Jed again promised Sparrow he would answer any questions she had and would not hold back again as he had done with the conception of their daughter. Jed wanted to tell her everything he could in the time they were here. He felt in his bones this would not be a long time.

Jed began,”I was born along the RioNegro river where our tribe was located at the that time. You see we are a traveling tribe. We were on our way toward what you know as Brazil. My mother already had two sons when I was born with a twin brother. That made four sons. I also have an older sister. Our home was the heart of the Amazon and covered many miles. My father is a great chief. In our tribe twin sons were a sign of great honor because of the symbol of balance.

The Ma-zoo believe that when twins are born there is great change coming that will restore our mother earth to her own balances, and this change will bless everyone who is part of the twin’s lineage. There is also another side to this because the Ma-zoo also believe
